please help with this little easy exam

Please see attached and please solve this is a small exam with about 10 questions only

use of data

Please include references to support your discussion (written within the past 5 years) at the end of your initial post and support your response to classmates. An initial post with in-text and end of text references in APA format and a minimum of 2 peer replies are required. Your replies should be meaningful and not just simply stating you agree with a peer or thanking them for their input – think how you would respond with the intent to continue the discussion.

You may not realize it but, almost everything you do or document is likely used as data. Such data can
be coded as a quality initiative variable (patient satisfaction) or a rate (rate of infection; readmission).
Other data may be specific to a facility or population. Where nurses were once somewhat removed
from quality reports, they are a common discussion with each staff meeting. Nurses are likely
associated with most initiatives whether directly or indirectly.

1) Module 7 readings directed you to explore various databases (under General References and Resources). In regards to what you encounter everyday in the workplace, what stood out to you within the databases reviewed.

2) Explore nursing literature. Share a study using a database as a benchmark for the study ( i.e. Press Ganey’s patient satisfaction score – as an outcome variable in a study; or Hospital Compare’s HAI rate). Were national averages were included? Do you see your workplace as part of the study? What are your thoughts?

I HAVE ATTACHED THE CITATIONS AND TRY TO STICK TO ONLY THOSE IF POSSIBLE. MY RESEARCH WILL TAKE PLACE IN AN ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL ON A TELEMETRY FLOOR WITH MANY ELDERLY PATIENTS THAT ARE IMMOBILE AND INCONTINENT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH STAFF TO TURN PATIENTS EVERY 2 HOURS AND CLEAN THEM UP AS OFTEN AS THEY NEED TO BE. COME UP WITH A PROPOSED SOLUTION SUCH AS PRESSURE REDISTRIBUTING SUPPORT MATTRESSES. HERE IS SOMETHING I WROTE ABOUT THIS ISSUE ALREADY.

Currently I am employed at an acute care hospital taking care of patients with cardiac problems. This floor faces many different problems which include falls, infection control, nurse shortage, skin breakdowns, and more. As a team we have protocols in place for most of our issues, but it is a work in progress. I would say our biggest clinical problem is skin breakdown. Our floor is a cardiac floor which means most patients are on a diuretic, and with the nurse and aide shortage, it may be hard for the nurses to turn their patients every 2 hours, let alone make it in time to take patients to the restroom. Elderly patients that get admitted to the hospital, can develop a pressure ulcer within their first week (Lyder, 2008). It is very important to prevent these ulcers, because it can lengthen their stay and effect our reimbursement rates. There are some problems that we cannot fix right away which is our shortage in nurses and aides. What we can possibly do is get more of the administration involved in our issues and make it known the reason why we are having so many skin breakdowns. Another way to implicate theses changes is to survey how many of these skin breakdowns were caused by us and how much this costs us at the end of the day. If administration realizes how much they are paying for this at the end, they might consider having more of a budget to try fixing this problem.

Cultural Context and Stigma

Cultural context looks at individuals in society and how they are raised and how their culture affects their behavior. It incorporates learned values and shared attitudes among groups of people. It includes language, norms, customs, ideas, beliefs, and meanings and individual characteristics. Therefore, when the cultural context of a person or group is not understood, Stigma may occur. Culture is very important because our cultural orientation is present in every interaction, and it is how society identifies us as an individual or group. We tend to make assumptions about a person’s beliefs or behaviors based on a single cultural indicator, particularly related to race or ethnicity, when our cultural identities are a complex weave of all the cultural groups around us or that we belong to that influence our values, beliefs, and behaviors.

Recent knowledge emerging out of the disability rights movements and grounded in disability studies research promotes a new understanding of disability as a socially constructed culture and as a social identity. Many people support the emerging issue of “disability culture” or “the culture of disability” and many more dispute disability as being a cohesive force to form a cultural group. As we challenge these assumptions and traditional views of disability, our beliefs can become more meaningful and relevant to the disability community and more informative to social development.

2. Society tends to create stigma and place labels on people that are believed to be different than the majorly in many ways. In many instances, these actions become part of the norm of society and spread from one generation to the other. We also understand that stigma and labels, in most of the cases, have negative consequences for the targeted group.

Part II: Please answer the following questions:

a) What is a stigma, and how does it affect our perception of other people?

b) Describe two forms of the stigma that society applies to people with disabilities.
